The idea to form an Arts & Dementia Facebook community grew out of the interest of members of DAA’s Arts Workgroup who wanted to create an online forum where people living with dementia and their care partners could share their creativity and expressions of art. Donna Newman-Bluestein, Co-Chair of the Workgroup, serves as the Facebook page moderator. Donna is a board-certified dance movement therapist with over 40+ years of experience spreading joy through movement.
“Arts are an expression of humanity,” notes Newman-Bluestein. “Art helps all humans cope with things that are difficult. It also offers the space for expressing duality, or what some may call ‘opposing feelings’,” an intense reality for many people living with dementia. With art as an authentic avenue of expression, opportunities and hope abound.
The Facebook page offers an engaged online community for people looking to share their work, offer words of encouragement, or to simply enjoy the creativity of others. All expressions of art are welcome – drawing, sculpture, painting, pottery, writing, music, dance, horticulture, drama, humor and more!
